Founding Vision for Palawan Samadhi Community
This is the original declaration of independence from the outdated society of consumerism. Palawan Samadhi Co. is in the long process of getting title on 50 hectares of Eden land near Port Barton on the Island of Palawan in the Philippines. The company was established for the purpose of simplifying land ownership. This land and other parcels to follow, are for the purpose of creating a sustainable community based on nature's support rather than financial support from the world's banks.
50 hectares of land is about 110 acres in the old English measure, or 315 Rai by Thai measure. It is one half of a square kilometer. The other half kilometer is available on request at this time. This land is mostly trees, jungle and waterfalls which come together into a large snakelike creek on a flat piece of farmland at the bottom. The farmland is another 9 hectares, or 20 acres, or 47 Rai; made up of pasture with various crops planted here and there such as 7 varieties of banana trees, avocado trees, coconut, mango, coffee, various vegetables, even lettuce and strawberries. There are also several buildings. David's land across the road (4 hectares), has also been planted with a variety of edible foods and buildings are going up slowly.
The 50 hectares of jungle with waterfalls and large trees is still in the Garden of Eden state. There are several flat areas presently being explored and cleared that will be used as building sites. The vision for most of it however is for keeping it in the present state with walkable trails and meditation huts, rest and breathing areas, tree houses and walking bridges over the creeks and waterfalls, yoga platforms and various rain shelters.
The original three members see this as a place to be at one with nature while doing evolutionary spiritual practices of different types like yoga, martial arts and meditations from the various cultures and schools including shamanistic and tribal dancing. Members coming in to the community would have to be of like mind with a spirit of co-operation, and communication abilities suitable for working with others.
Individual members would have there own plot of land and house they build or have built, in the style of a non-crowded community, sharing skills and abilities as well as tools. Farmland is still available at relatively cheap prices like $1000 to 2000usd per acre at this time: Dec-09. The more livable areas of flat or farm land can be the sustainable and supporting foundation for human needs like food and houses. The idea of sustainability applies from food growing to power systems that nature can sustain through wind, sun and waterfalls. No rumbling generators that everyone would have to hear, and no one would have to breathe the fumes. Withdrawal from the oil wars. Water and waste water, sewage etc would be set up in environmental and sustainable re-cycling fashion such as composting toilets. Houses could be built in a simple native style with whatever modern and high tech adaptations that do not bother others (like loud music.) Dance parties could be frequent in designated areas. Many details to be worked out here by the original members of the community, with an open mindedness to improvements and new ideas.
The financial side would aim at a gradual (or quick) withdrawal from the world monetary crisis and re-establishment on support from nature rather than banks. A financial launching pad is required but then learning to fly would be the education.
Education for adults and children would include nature studies and sustainable technologies, organic food production. Sustainable health would be taught to all ages with the responsibility for individual health resting on the shoulders of every adult. This would mean a withdrawal from the pharmaceutical corporations and a return to letting our food and air be our medicine.
It is a possibility to have legal ownership of individual parcels of land but requires Philippino partnership, so the Palawan Samadhi Co. has been set up to make things easier. For the time being it is more of a land co-op with agreeable members. Community living would begin with living simply and sustainable lifestyles which allow much of the time for spiritual practices, creativity in music and arts, and leisure time for evolution. Lifestyle would not be rigid but rather adaptable to the unfolding situation based on consideration of all concerned, and on co-operation. There are many other lands available for purchase by any individual, but with cautions since getting a real title is not so easy.
This project is a community oriented development for living in a natural lifestyle and not a form of investment for later profit on resale.
